Harm Reduction Strategies

Dreamed that Robin Williams was performing in this creepy motel high up on a hill. He was reprising his role as the genie in Aladdin. Meanwhile, I was caught up in some high family drama: I had a son who had knocked up a much older woman; the woman had decided to have the baby; and we were all in one of the rooms of the motel together. Lucius was there, too. I was really angry. I decided to go for a walk, and set out down the hill, which spanned really busy strip mall-type streets; the street T-connected to another strip-mall street and then another—and I realized I was lost and that I did not have my phone. Good, I thought. And I’m not going back! Fuck ‘em!

It occurred to me that it would be the easiest thing in the world to just ask someone: Can you give me directions to the place where Robin Williams is playing?

But I wasn’t gonna do that.

I had an excuse. I could stay lost.

Hideously grey day. It’s impossible to gauge the effectiveness of harm reduction strategies, of course, but I popped Vitamin D and huddled under my full-spectrum light anyway. And though generally curt and dismissive to all who crossed my path, I didn’t go cruising the Assassins For Hire listings on Craig’s List or anything. Plus I made $$$$, and in the afternoon, I forced myself to go running.

Behold the Goddess of the Smartphone in the twilight of her reign!

Behold Goldengrove unleaving!

Many more trees looked like that than like this:

But of course, "like this" is what you want October leaves to look like, so all in all, this autumn has been a bit of a bust.
