The Pressure Is Off

Batchelor # 3 announced he will be wearing shorts to tonight’s rendezvous.

In a fit of pique, I suspect.

This is just fine with me since it removes the pressure of dressing up and means we can rendezvous at Fosters.

Fosters is the scene of at least one bad Stoopid Internet LUV Connection in the past. But Fosters is also the location of the Magic Infinity Booth where [profile] lifeinroseland and I had lunch last summer:

This morning, I was trying to remember why I bother to go out on dates at all. I’ve reproduced! I own a vibrator!

I suppose I’m hoping to run across someone who likes to go roadtripping as much as I do.

Fat chance, right?

But that’s the experience I’d really like to share with someone.

###

Else?

I ventured out on to the Walkway yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks. I did not run, but I walked fast. Afterwards, the bad knee was a little bit stiff but didn’t throb.

Max called me while I was out, and we chatted for an hour or so. First time we’ve talked in ages—while he was studying for the Bar, he tunneled down, and my communications with him were all by smailmail letter and check.

He’s moving out of the House O' Virtuous Millennials! Into a studio in downtown Berkeley!

“Why?” I asked.

He laughed. “I don’t exactly know how to say this to my mother. But it’s because I want to be a slut.”

Meaning: He wants to have sex with lots and lots of people, and he doesn’t want to have to introduce those people to a jury of Virtuous Millennials.

Paradoxically, he has fallen in love again. He texted me several pix of Mia, the new heartthrob: She looks a lot like Liza, but does not look at all like me—which is odd because Liza looked a lot like me. (I am not the only one who thought this! My immensely unimaginative cousin Alicia also pointed this out.)

He tells me they’re both fine with open relationships. The Anthony Bourdain and Asia Argento of the public policy world!

Anyway, Max sounded very upbeat, which did my maternal heart good to hear. I wanna figure out a way to slip him a few hundred bucks every months without cutting back on catnip or roadtrip expenditures: Living in downtown Berkeley cannot be cheap.

Can't wait to hear how the "date" went. Maybe you went for a drive?

In pictures I can see how someone sees the other, I had never seen myself look like that. I’m so glad I’m not posing, just giddy with infinity!

I have never seen you look anything but really pretty.

Just another data point. :-)

Yea but why do you need to be romantically involved with someone to do a roadtrip together?

Romance?
No.

Well. technically, you don't.

But you know that linguistic shorthand that develops in intimate relationships? Those little jokes that reference past experiences you've shared?

They tend to add richness to the roadtripping experience. :-)
